Mulgrave Farmland Bird Count – the results are in !

It seems like a lifetime ago now but back in February, Mulgrave Estate joined in with the GWCT Big Farmland Bird Count. This national event encouraged all farmers and landowners to get involved and record our ‘feathered friends’ on the farms for half an hour between the dates of 7 – 16 February. A number of farm tenants across the Estate participated in the scheme and the results were really interesting. The Estate office co-ordinated the scheme locally and forwarded the results to the national database.

Despite being challenged by storms Ciara and Dennis, the birds showed and were ticked off on the list. A real variety was recorded across the Estate including good numbers of Chaffinch, Linnet, Tree Sparrow, Fieldfare, Lapwing, Starling and Bullfinch. It seems that there is a healthy population of Barn Owls, Yellowhammer, Song Thrush and Dunnock as well.

Record numbers of people took part in the event this year (over 1500 farmers nationwide) https://www.bfbc.org.uk/ and we hope to increase participation across the Estate next year.

A big farmland bird THANK YOU to all that took part on Mulgrave Estate this year and sent their results into us.
