Mulgrave Estate has completed new woodland planting at Murkside and the first phase of Churchdale, marking an important step in its long-term stewardship of land within the North York Moors National Park.
Across the two sites, approximately 60 hectares of new woodland have been planted, primarily on areas of lower-quality grazing land, where woodland offered an alternative long-term use in terms of environmental resilience and landscape structure.
The planting has been carefully designed to reflect the character of the National Park—integrating with existing woodland, farmland and open ground, and contributing to a more varied and resilient landscape over time.
This new woodland will also provide opportunities for the local forestry sector, supporting the transfer of skills and helping to equip the next generation to manage and work within this distinctive and often challenging landscape.
